RMT Robotics and KUKA Robotics Sign System Partner Agreement
March 10, 2004
RMT Robotics Ltd. has signed a system partner agreement with KUKA Robotics; making them a third-party integrator of articulated arm robots for palletizing applications. This is a strategic move by RMT, with the goal of expanding upon their gantry solution offerings for both current and potential clients.
In an effort to supply their customers with greater overall options, especially in the few sku and end of line palletizing market, RMT has formed a partnership with KUKA, the world's leading manufacturer of PC based industrial robots. The offering will also enable RMT to expand its offering within the food industry to include options for frozen or refrigerated products. This relationship has great potential to develop a powerful synergy between two leaders.
Articulated robots have long been the recognized choice for palletizing in few sku/medium rate applications because of their cost effectiveness and off the shelf nature. Gantry robots have been the recognized choice in high sku/ low to medium rate applications because of their customized robust structures and their ability to cover a larger footprint, and handle a large volume of skus in a cost effective manner. Customers who have taken advantage of gantry solutions by RMT have recognized the value of their expertise as the manufacturer and integrator of innovative solutions. This offering will allow these customers to take advantage of this expertise in the integration of articulated robots.
"The move to integrate articulating robots was a natural progression in building our customer relationships. Many of our customers have multiple facilities with diverse applications, some of which are natural gantry applications and some of which are natural articulated applications. In order to provide them with a single source for all their facilities we have expanded our product solutions to offer an articulated solution.", says Douglas Pickard, President of RMT Robotics. "We chose KUKA as our articulated robot partner because of their reputation in the industry, robust structure and a common controls approach."
